Rev. Jamie D. Hawley

In addition to being a dedicated pastor and teacher, Rev Jamie D. Hawley is an Activist, Educator, and Author. Rev. Hawley pursued his undergraduate studies at Southern Illinois University at Carbondale. He received formative theological education at Chicago Theological Seminary. His previous appointments include serving in the United States Navy as an aviation administrator and adjunct instructor at Saint Xavier University and Harvard University’s Center for Workforce Development. He was also a chaplain at the University of Michigan Health System, where he worked on several quality improvement initiatives to address health care disparities in marginalized communities.

He received the University of Michigan Diversity Leaders Award for his work, which included securing a start-up grant and serving as Principal Investigator (PI) of a qualitative study project, "Policing Grief." Before returning to Chicago, Jamie served as a Beyond the Bar Fellow at the Center for Justice at Columbia University in New York. Before being called to The Congregational Church of Park Manor, Rev. Hawley served as senior pastor of Lincoln Memorial Congregational United Church of Christ. He is thrilled and prayerful as both faith communities have begun formal discussions to merge as one family.

Rev. Hawley is published in the National Journal of Medical Association and a special issue of the National Men's Journal: Race, Gender, and Class in the Wake of a National Crisis. He is also a contributing writer in Drs. Margaret L. Andersen and Patricia Hill Collins' anthology Race, Class & Gender – Intersections and Inequalities as well as Spiritual Care in an Age of #BlackLivesMatter: Examining the Spiritual and Prophetic Needs of African Americans in a Violent America. He is the father to one adult son. His greatest pride and joy? – “I am my son’s dad.”
